Asbjorn Lonvig's words: The most astonishing about The Centre national d'art et de culture Georges Pompidou is the backside architecture.
Tubes painted in bright colors.
It has only been point of departure for my work...
my motif has not at all any resemblance with the Centre's look...
To the right is the original art work.
But I want to transform the square art work to the general format.
Then I made a Left and a Right version.
Wikipedia's words: The Centre national d'art et de culture Georges Pompidou was the brainchild of President Georges Pompidou who wanted to create an original cultural institution in the heart of Paris completely focused on modern and contemporary creation, where the visual arts would rub shoulders with theatre, music, cinema, literature and the spoken word. Housed in the centre of Paris in a building designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, whose architecture symbolises the spirit of the 20th century, the Centre Pompidou first opened its doors to the public in 1977. After renovation work from 1997 to December 1999, it opened to the public again on 1 January 2000, with expanded museum space and enhanced reception areas. Since then it has once again become one of the most visited attractions in France. Some 6 million people pass through the Centre Pompidou's doors each year, a total of over 190 million visitors in its 30 years of existence.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "Church at the Invalides Color" is inspired by  the Church at the Invalides.
Is Napoleon Bonaparte really inside?????
Wikipedia's words: Under the dome of the Church at the Invalides - L'église des Invalides - Napoleon Bonaparte's sarcophagus is placed.
Les Invalides in Paris, France, is a complex of buildings in the city's 7th arrondissement containing museums and monuments, all relating to the military history of France. There is a hospital as well and a retirement home for war veterans, which is the original purpose of
the buildings
. The buildings house the Musée de l'Armée, the military museum of the Army of France, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, and the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine, as well as the burial site for France's war heroes, notably Napoleon Bonaparte.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "Napoleon's Sarcophagus" is inspired by Napoleon's sarcophagus in the "Church at the Invalides"
Napoleon was one of the world's foremost military leaders with one of the greatest stories you've ever heard. Born to a large family, he married an Empress, evolved into a powerful army leader, was made into Emperor at a young age, won and lost many battles, and finally exiled to St. Helena. His legend still lives on in the hearts of many history and military buffs.
Napoleon's
sarcophagus is adjunct with Hotel des Invalides in the 7e arrondissement. I didn't visit the Military Museum due to lack of time. I've always been fascinated with French Revolutionary history, especially when it came to the relationship between Napoleon and his first wife, Josephine. The Sarcophagus is magnificent and majestic. It is certainly one of the largest Sarcophagus I've ever seen. It is set right in the center of Les Invalides on the bottom floor, allowing visitors to get a bird's eye view of every inch of the sarcophagus.

Asbjorn Lonvig words: No doubt we had to visit Moulin Rouge. Even if my youngest son were only 4 years old. Chanpagne and naked dancers. No problem. A show exactly as you might have expected.
Wikipedia's words: Carefree life, Flickered behavior and Joie de Vivre... Those are the three words that could best sum up this unique period in the History of France. It was a rest between two wars, a period of transition between two centuries, during which the social barriers collapsed, when the industrial revolution gave hope of a better life for all, in a rich cultural profusion and that promised much fun.
The middle-class mixed with the riffraff, the popular culture was enchanced in a contented disorder full of joy and vitality. In that atmosphere, which favoured artistic creativity, literary circles appeared and disappeared according to people'meetings, while painters and drawers got especially inspired by this joyful sometimes outrageous but full of fancy atmosphere that broke completely with the rigid classicism of that period.
The Japonism, a movement of Far-East inspiration using influences from the Japanese style in French Art, was at its height. Toulouse-Lautrec and his famous Japanese engravings was one of the most famous disciples of that time. The atmosphere fitted perfectly to the appearance of the first cabarets, such as the Moulin Rouge in 1889.

Asbjorn Lonvig words: The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris that stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, (also known as the Place de l'Étoile), at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. Officially, it is the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile, as the smaller Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel exists nearby. The triumphal arch honours those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and the top of the arc there are all of the names of generals and wars fought. Underneath is the tomb of the unknown soldier from World War I.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: The Lily of France is not only used in France. I have seen it used officially in Quebec, in Louisianan and in Florence as well. All of them of course has a common past with France...
Wikipedia's words: The fleur-de-lis is a stylized lily or iris that is used as a decorative design or symbol. It may be "at one and the same time, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic", especially in heraldry.
While the fleur-de-lis has appeared on countless European coats of arms and flags over the centuries, it is particularly associated with the French monarchy in a historical context, and continues to appear in the arms of the King of Spain and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, members of the House of Bourbon. It remains an enduring symbol of France that appears on French postage stamps, although it has never been adopted officially by any of the French republics. In North America, the fleur-de-lis is often associated with areas formerly settled by France, such as Quebec, St. Louis, Louisville, and Louisiana, and with French-speaking people in other Canadian provinces.
It is also the emblem of the city of Florence, and of the Swiss municipality of Schlieren..............

Wikipeadia's words: On May 15, 1889, the Eiffel Tower opened its door to the public, a few days after the inauguration of the Universal Exposition, and was the uncontested attraction of the event. 120 years later, the Mayor of Paris and the operating company, Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, organized a series of events to celebrate the Tower’s anniversary in 2009: Bastille Days fireworks display, a light show, as well as an exhibition “Tales of the Eiffel Tower”.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: A symbol for the whole of Europe.
At some point the blue and the yellow lights are turned off.
And you ponder on the substance of the European Union - represented by the non-illuminated naked image of the Eiffel Tower.
You realize that there were no wars among European Unionists since 1949.
That's what the European Union is basically about to me.
Beyond all the words.
And you praise yourself that your country is an European Unionist. On the occasion of the French presidency of the European Union (French President Nicolas Sarkozy will launch the French Presidency of the EU at 10am on Thursday 10 July in Strasbourg in a speech to MEPs and the European Commission.) in august 2008, the Eiffel Tower was illuminated in blue - the color of the European Union's flag.
Every evening from 23 h. a flamboyant blue illuminated the symbol of Paris.
The flag: Against the background of blue sky, the stars form a circle, symbolizing union.
The number of stars is fixed, twelve being the symbol of perfection and completeness and bringing to mind the apostles, the sons of Jacob, the labors of Hercules, the months in the year, etc.
From its foundation in 1949 the Council of Europe was aware of the need to give Europe a symbol with which its inhabitants could identify.
On 25 October 1955 the Parliamentary Assembly unanimously approved the emblem of a circle of gold stars on a blue background.
On 9 December 1955 the Organization's Committee of Ministers adopted the star-studded flag,
which was launched officially on 13 December of the same year in Paris.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: I was at an exhibition at an art museum. The exhibition was called “Hommage á Henri Toulouse-Lautrec”.
I always was fascinated by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - for thousands of reasons.
One of them is Toulouse-Lautrec's first poster, Moulin Rouge - La Goulue, which introduced into poster design a bold simplification of form, space, and composition learned from Japanese woodblock prints.
I met him in Moulin Rouge in Paris once. He sure was drunk. Was I?
“Hommage” means “in honor of” and I saw no honor at all.
I had nothing to do but go home and create my own “Hommage á Henri Toulouse-Lautrec”.
My inspiration: His art, his hat, his glasses, his beard, his short legs, his clothes. The red scarf is not his own. It is a part of my imaginable perception of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.
Sure it is the scarf of Aristide Bruant on one of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec’s most famous posters.
Wikipedia's words: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864 – 1901) was a French painter, printmaker, draftsman, and illustrator, whose immersion in the colourful and theatrical life of fin de siècle Paris yielded an oeuvre of exciting, elegant and provocative images of the modern and sometimes decadent life of those times. Toulouse-Lautrec is known along with Cézanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin as one of the greatest painters of the Post-Impressionist period.
At the age of 13 Henri fractured his right thigh bone, and at 14, the left. The breaks did not heal properly. Modern physicians attribute this to an unknown genetic disorder.
His legs ceased to grow, so that as an adult he was only 1.22 m (4 ft 6 in) tall, having developed an adult-sized torso, while retaining his child-sized legs, which were 0.70 m (27.5 in) long.
Toulouse-Lautrec gave himself up fully to the bohemian life, spending much of his time drinking and carousing - and constantly sketching - in cabarets, racetracks, and brothels.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "l'Hôtel de Ville" is the City Hall of Paris.
Its amazing.
And spooky.
It is not a Hotel. However, in the motif "Heartbrake Hotel" - a famous song written and song by Elvis Presly - the Heartbrake Hotel is symbolized by a broken heart and a hotel. The hotel is not just any hotel, its "l'Hôtel de Ville" in Paris - city of love - city of heartbrakes.
The most prominent resident of
l'Hôtel de Ville is undoubtedly Jacques Chirac, who was the Mayor of Paris March 1977–16 May 1995 and after that he was the president of France 17 May 1995 until 16 May 2007. Unfortunately Jacques Chirac got trouble after his presidency (and immunity) because of suspicion of unlawful financial support to his party in his time as mayor - his time in l'Hôtel de Ville.

Wikipedia's words: The Hôtel de Ville (French for "City Hall") in Paris, France, is the building housing the City of Paris's administration. The place de l'Hôtel de Ville (formerly the place de Grève) in the city's IVe arrondissement, has been the location of the municipality of Paris since 1357. It serves several functions, housing the local administration, the Mayor of Paris – since 1977 –, and also being a venue for large receptions. The present Mayor of Paris is Bertrand Delanoë.
In July 1357, Étienne Marcel, provost of the merchants (mayor) of Paris, bought the so-called maison aux piliers ("House of Pillars") in the name of the municipality on the gently sloping shingle beach which served as a river port for unloading wheat and wood and later merged into a square, the Place de Grève (French for "Square of the Strand"), a place where Parisians often gathered, particularly for public executions. Since 1357, the City of Paris's administration has been located on the same location where the Hôtel de Ville stands today. Before 1357, the city administration was located in the so-called parloir aux bourgeois ("Parlour of Burgesses") near Place du Châtelet - known from La Colonne du Châtelet de 1808 and Theatre de la Ville.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "L'église de la Madeleine" is of cause inspired by L'église de la Madeleine.
La Madeleine's design is obviously inspired by the Roman Pantheon of which I have made several motifs. The present L'église de la Madeleine is designed as a temple to the glory of Napoleon's army. Waterloo. Let's see it from the bright side.
The Roman Pantheon is on my favorite Roman square - Piazza della Rotonda.
I love to be at Piazza della Rotonda when the sun is setting, when the lights are put on.
And lots of People pass by.
It seams like every Roman pedestrian passes by Piazza della Rotonda.
From Piazza Navona.
To the Spanish Stairs.
From The Trevi Fountaine.
To the Roman Forum.
The atmosphere is magnificent.
Wikipedia's words: L'église de la Madeleine (more formally, L'église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine; less formally, just La Madeleine), Madeleine Church in English, is a Roman Catholic church occupying a commanding position in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. It was designed in its present form as a temple to the glory of Napoleon's army. To its south lies the Place de la Concorde, to the east is the Place Vendôme, and to the west L'église Saint-Augustin.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "Pont Neuf 3 Arches" is of cause inspired by Pont Neuf.
All my life I thought that Pont Neuf meant bridge number nine. It means the new bridge!!
Whether nine or new - it is beautiful...
Wikipedia's words: The Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France. Its name, which was given to distinguish it from older bridges that were lined on both sides with houses, has remained.
Standing by the western point of the Île de la Cité, the island in the middle of the river that was the heart of medieval Paris, it connects the Rive Gauche of Paris with the Rive Droite.
The bridge is composed of two separate spans, one of five arches joining the left bank to the Île de la Cité, another of seven joining the island to the right bank. Old engraved maps of Paris show how, when the bridge was built, it just grazed the downstream tip of the Île de la Cité; since then, the natural sandbar building of a mid-river island, aided by stone-faced embankments called quais, has extended the island. Today the island is the Square du Vert-Galant, a park named in honor of Henry IV, nicknamed the "Green Gallant."

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "Sacre Coeur Basilica Color" is inspired by Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, Paris, France.
We jumped off the Metro below Sacre Coeur. We walked in fascinating streets. Real Parisian streets. Then Montmartre. At last we arrived at this fantastic Church, that can be seen from all over Paris.
Wikipedia's words: The Sacre Coeur Basilica was built at the end of the 19th century at the Montmartre hill in Paris.
It is a Roman Catholic church. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city of Paris.

The overall style of the structure shows a free interpretation of Romano-Byzantine features, an unusual architectural vocabulary at the time. Many design elements of the basilica symbolize nationalist themes: the portico, with its three arches, is adorned by two equestrian statues of French national saints Joan of Arc (1927) and King Saint Louis IX, both executed in bronze by Hippolyte Lefebvre. The nineteen-ton Savoyarde bell (one of the world's heaviest), cast in 1895 in Annecy, alludes to the annexation of Savoy in 1860.
Its famous white appearance
is dominating the whole city of Paris.
The Sacre Coeur is a holy place and a flagship of Catholic devotion to the Holy Virgin.
It attracts many pilgrims from all over the world.
The Sacre Coeur has been painted many times by famous Montmartre artists.
At Place du Tertre you can meet Montmartre artists and you can meet people from all over the world.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "The Louvre Pyramid" is inspired by The Louvre Pyramid.
Only a few architects masters combining old and new. The Pyramid is a masterpiece.
The Pyramid was inaugurated in 1989 - two hundred years before Le Louvre in 1793. Architecturally the pyramid has its own life, as has Le Louvre. The two talks to each other with love and respect, containing each others uniqueness.
Wikipedia's words: the Louvre Pyramid (Pyramide du Louvre) is a large glass and metal pyramid, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard (Cour Napoleon) of the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) in Paris. The large pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. It has become a landmark of the city of Paris.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: I remember that the Palace of Versailles was huge.
I remember it was extremely extravagant.
I remember, that I had to go outside for a moment. I remember it was not an easy task to get out because of the crowd.
Wikipedia's words: The Palace of Versailles, or in French: le Château de Versailles, which has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for 30 years, is one of the most beautiful achievements of 18th-century French art. The site began as Louis XIII’s hunting lodge before his son Louis XIV transformed and expanded it, moving the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. Each of the three French kings who lived there until the French Revolution added improvements to make it more beautiful.
The Hall of Mirrors, the King’s Grand Apartments, the Museum of the History of France. The Château de Versailles, the seat of power until 1789, has continued to unfurl its splendor over the course of centuries. At first it was just a humble hunting lodge built by Louis XIII. But Louis XIV chose the site to build the palace we know today, the symbol of royal absolutism and embodiment of classical French art.
In the 1670s Louis XIV built the Grand Apartments of the King and Queen, whose most emblematic achievement is the Hall of Mirrors designed by Mansart, where the king put on his most ostentatious display of royal power in order to impress visitors. The Chapel and Opera were built in the next century under Louis XV.
The château lost its standing as the official seat of power in 1789 but acquired a new role in the 19th century as the Museum of the History of France, which was founded at the behest of Louis-Philippe, who ascended to the throne in 1830. That is when many of the château’s rooms were taken over to house the new collections, which were added to until the early 20th century, tracing milestones in French history.
UNESCO's words: The Palace of Versailles was the principal residence of the French kings from the time of Louis XIV to Louis XVI. Embellished by several generations of architects, sculptors, decorators and landscape architects, it provided Europe with a model of the ideal royal residence for over a century.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by the mirror of the Palace of Verseilles in the ponds in front of it.  You have to see the term "Mirror" in both a figurative sence and in a non-figurative sense.
On the one hand I am inspired. Inspired by all this extravagance. On the other hand I despite it. In the two ponds at Parterre l'Eau I can see the Palace in a mirror. In this mirror I see
extravagance. Extravagance is no way beautifull - the mirror of extravagance is?
Mirors, mirrors, mirrors.
This palace is famous for its hall of mirrors.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: On the first day of summer 1500 trees are brought out of the green houses. Each tree stands i its own box winther as well as summer.
"The Versailles Orangery" is inspired by the ornaments in the lawns. Seethe effect of this motif when used in graphic design.
Wikipedia's words:
The Versailles Orangery (French: L' Orangerie du Château de Versailles) was built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1684 and 1686, that is to say, before work on the castle had even begun. It is under the flowerbed known as 'parterre du midi'. Its central gallery is 155 meters in length, and its frontage is directed towards the south. The central gallery is framed by two side galleries located under the “Escaliers des Cent Marches”. The whole is lit by large arched windows, which enclose the lower bed or the 'bed de l'orangerie'. In the winter, the Orangerie houses more than a thousand trees (mostly orange) in boxes. The “Parterre Bas” is bordered on its south side by a balustrade overlooking the Saint-Cyr-l'École. This separates it from the Swiss Pond. In the center of the Orangerie is a large circular pool, surrounded by six fields of grass. From May to October, the orange trees and other trees are exposed in the lower bed.
UNESCO's words: The Orangery was built before the Verseilles Palace. In 1979, the gardens along with the palace were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, one of thirty-one such designations in France.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words:
I sailed down the Seine in Paris.

There was the Statue of Liberty.
Like the Statue of Liberty in New York.
But smaller.
This statue looks towards west.
Towards US.
My first impulse was that it was a model of the
larger one in New York Harbor.
That was not right.
The one in
New York Harbor had been erected 3 years earlier.
Wikipedia's words: The Statue of Liberty (French: Statue de la Liberté) on the Île des Cygnes, a man-made island in the river Seine - under the Pont de Grenelle - was given to the city of Paris, France. The statue is 11.50 m (37 feet 9 inches) high. It was inaugurated on July 4, 1889, it looks towards the Atlantic Ocean and hence towards its "larger sister" in New York Harbor, which had been erected nearly three years earlier.
The tablet of the Statue of Liberty in the river Seine bears two dates: "IV JUILLET 1776" (July 4, 1776: the United States Declaration of Independence) like the New York statue, and "XIV JUILLET 1789" (July 14, 1789: the storming of the Bastille).
The Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor on Liberty Island was inaugurated on October 28, 1886.
It is 93 m (305 ft) tall.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by the Vessel from the Coat of Arms.
I have studied the coat of arms of Paris. The vessel and the lilies af France needed some contemporary redrawing.
I'll make a suggestion to Mayor Bertrand Delanoë to let my suggestion become the new coat of arms for Paris.
Wikipedia's words: The coat of arms of the city of Paris, in its current form, dates back to 1358, when King Charles V officially installed it. On the coat of arms, the represented vessel is the symbol of the powerful corporate body of the Marchands de l'eau, dating back to the Middle Ages. The city motto, "Fluctuat nec mergitur" ("It is beaten by the waves without being submerged") is equally a reference to this boat.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by South Rose Window Notre Dame de Paris.
What I was really enthusiastic about in Notre-Dame de Paris was one of the 3 large rosettes - a mosaic made out of stained glass.
The sun was shining the morning I visited Notre-Dame de Paris and the light was bursting through the colorfully stained glass. Amazing.
The Swiss psychologist C. G. Jung would probably have called these rosettes mandalas - and sure they are.
Wikipedia's words: Notre-Dame de Paris has a significant treasure: its 3 large rosettes. These examples of technical and artistic skills were constructed in the 13th century. The largest 2 measure 13 meters in diameter. The King Saint Louis postponed his departure for the 2nd crusade so he could see them completed. It was in 1270, and he never came back. They represent the flowers of Heaven, which resemble roses with multi-colored glass in stained glass technique. Each colored petal sets off the others, but the design is not only used for its visual impact, it is a reminder that everyone is unique, but the children of God are even more beautiful when they come together! Each medallion represents a different person, Prophets, Saints, Angels, Kings, Scenes from the lives of the Saints, work through song, virtues… all whirling on vast wheels around the central medallion, which features two rose windows depicting the Virgin and Baby Jesus and another showing Christ in majesty.
The South Rose Window was a gift from the king Saint Louis. It was designed by Jean de Chelles and Pierre de Montreuil. The first stone of the south transept facade was laid in 1258. The South Rose Window, a central element that thrones over the transept facade, was constructed in 1260 as a counterpoint to the North Rose Window, which was built in 1250. Like the North Rose Window, the South Rose Window reached 12.90 meters in diameter and, if you include its bay, a height of nearly 19 meters.
This rosette is dedicated to the New Testament.

Antoine Maille, according to one of his contemporaries, "made an art out of an industry". Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by Pont des Arts.
I was searching something on Amazon.com.
By accident I saw this very unique and spectacular construction of a  nine-arch metallic pedestrian bridge on a cover of a book.
I later had the opportunity to get close to the construction - sure, there were a basis of a new motif.
Wikipedia's words: The Pont des Arts or Passerelle des Arts is a pedestrian bridge in Paris which crosses the Seine River. It links the Institut de France and the central square (cour carrée) of the palais du Louvre, (which had been termed the "Palais des Arts" under the First Empire).

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by La Grande Arche de La Défense
Sure you will not believe this story. The FIFA World Cup 1998 took place in France. Some of the matches were played in Paris.
Denmark was qualified to meet Brasil. We planned to see the match on widescreen in Lisboa, Portugal at the World Exhibition.
Before that we were in Paris and visited La Grande Arche de La Défense.
At the top we met Pele, he was being interviwed by a Spanish talking TV station.
I went over to Pele to talk to him, and in a few seconds we talked about the match between Denmark and Brasil.
Of course Pele believed that Brazil would win.
I do not know if our conversation was transmitted by the Spanish talking TV station.
I know Pele signed my cap.
I know Brazil won.

With its cinemas, cafés, luxury specialty shops and clipped horse-chestnut trees, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is one of the most famous streets in the world, and with rents as high as €1.1 million (USD1.5 million) annually per 1,100 square feet (92.9 square metres) of space, it remains the second most expensive strip of real estate in Europe, having recently (as of 2010) been overtaken by London's Bond Street. The name is French for Elysian Fields, the place of the blessed dead in Greek mythology.
The Avenue des Champs-Élysées is known in France as La plus belle avenue du monde ("The most beautiful avenue in the world"). The arrival of global chain stores in recent years has strikingly changed its character, and in a first effort to stem these changes, the City of Paris (which has called this trend "banalisation") decided in 2007 to ban the Swedish clothing chain H&M from opening a store on the avenue. In 2008, however, American clothing chain Abercrombie & Fitch was given permission to open a store.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: The Tour de France in Paris.
It is 25th July 2010 and only the final stage from Longjumeau - a new stage town, in Essonne -  to Paris is left. The riders arrive with France’s high-speed rail system Bordeaux. The Tour follows tradition, and the final stage finishes with a circuit on the Champs Elysées, a tantalizing prize for the sprinters. With this year’s mountainous course, the final sprint victory will not come easily.
All riders are relaxed and they make fun until the circuit on the Champs Elysées.
However when they pass the Eiffel Tower the speed is high, everybody are making themself ready for 10 circuits of high-speed riding.
The yellow jersey (maillot jaune) is worn by the general classification leader.
Since 1975, there has been a competition for young riders - the best wears the white jersey (maillot blanc).
The green jersey (maillot vert)  is awarded for sprint points.
The King of the Mountains wears a white jersey with red dots (maillot à pois rouges).

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: The Snail in GAP.
The Tour de France Stage 10 was won in a sprint by Portugal’s Sérgio Paulinho.
Meanwhile, his RadioShack teammate Lance Armstrong fell another two minutes behind overall leader Andy Schleck.
Stage 10 was slow. Did the riders fall asleep? For sure a snail in yellow jersey overtook.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspiration just popped up. I live in Denmark in Jutland. Normally there are not many Red London Buses in my neighborhood. But suddenly one day there was one in my town. A store used it for some kind of advertising. I was thrilled and I took 100 photos.
Later I had another opportunity to study Red London Buses.
I lived close to Crystal Palace Stadium and every day I went to the city of London.
"Went"???
No, the Red London Buses raced.
I had to hold on tight.
If I was lucky to have a seat I constantly hit the hit the wall of the bus or I bumped into my traveler companion besides me.
If I got no seat I was in dire strait.
Then "hold on tight" had a new meaning: Grab any strap you can get hold of. And you must accept  to hang in the strap and swing back and forth until you reach your stop.

Wikipedia's words: The London Bus is one of London's principal icons, the archetypal red rear-entrance double-deck route master being recognized worldwide. Although the route master has now been largely phased out of service, with only two heritage routes still using the vehicles, the majority of buses in London are still red and therefore the red bus remains an iconic symbol of the city.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: I arrived in the city of Amsterdam in a rainy and cloudy whether. The city was depressing and I was depressed.
After one hour or so the rain stopped and the clouds disappeared. Amsterdam was miraculously transformed to the most beautiful and interesting city.
The absolute highlight to me was the canals and the Merchants' Houses.

Amsterdam.info's words: Amsterdam is one of Europe's foremost architecture and design cities, not only because of 17th century rings of canals. Amsterdam is where modern architecture developed organically. Since it is not a very big city, all sites of interest are within acceptable distance, this is why Amsterdam is so popular with lovers of architecture.
The old center was formed by rings of canals with unique mostly 17th century residences of wealthy merchants, financiers, craftsmen, doctors, lawyers, politicians and artists. Because of lack of space, these houses were mostly narrow, not more than 30ft wide (9 meters). They are are characterized by big narrow windows, decorative gable tops, very narrow stairs inside and pulley outside to transport larger objects to upper floors. Very often the residences served also as businesses. Merchant’s houses had their storage in attics and cellars. Sometimes the lift was installed in the middle of the house plan, to transport the goods between floors. The office of the merchant was usually on the ground floor. Like in Venice the canals were the main way of transporting the goods.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by the combined beauty, size and colors of "The Winter Palace" and "Catherine's Palace"- also known as Katharinenhof - in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Wikipedia's words: The Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia, was, from 1732 to 1917, the official residence of the Russian Tsars. Situated between the Palace Embankment and the Palace Square, adjacent to the site of Peter the Great's original Winter Palace, the present and fourth Winter Palace was built and altered almost continuously between the late 1730s and 1837, when it was severely damaged by fire and immediately rebuilt. The storming of the palace in 1917 became an iconic symbol of the Russian Revolution.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Inspired by the combined beauty, size and colors of "The Winther Palace" and "Catherine's Palace"- also known as Katharinenhof - in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Wikipedia's words: Located some 12 miles (about 25 kilometers) away from St.Petersburg, the ensemble of the Catherine's Palace and Park are among Russia's top historical recreation complexes visited by hundreds of thousands tourists every year. In the seventeenth century there was a Finnish farm here at Dudorovsky eminence called "Saari mois" in Finnish language. In 1708 it became a possession of the Russian Tsar, and the Finnish toponymy word "Saari mois" was transformed into "Tsarskaya Mysa" that sounded more Russian. In 1708-1724 Tsarskaya Mysa was the residence of Peter the Great's wife, the Empress Catherine I. From 1741 Tsarskoye Selo became the residence of the Empress Elizabeth and during her reign the architect Rastrelli created a magnificent Emperial Palace, a brilliant masterpiece of Russian baroque. At the same time the Hermitage and Grotto Pavilions were built, regular Upper and Lower Gardens were laid out, and the Lower Garden was decorated with sculptures.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: "HH" is a sculpture intrepretation.
The sculpture is called HH, too.
The  a sculpture is situated at the motorway E45 in Denmark, at exit number 58.
It is the first and only sculpture erected that close to a moterway.
How the job was done:
A member of a council of commerce asked me to design a motif for plastic bags.
The intention was do promote the city.
To visualize the city.
At the same time a major motor way was under construction.
A motor way that passed by this city.
I told the member of the council of commerce that it might be a better idea to erect a huge metal sculpture close to the new motor way.
Sure it would be a much more expensive solution than the plastic bags.

I would never suggest this to the council of commerce.
But.
You yourself can have 15 minutes to tell the council about the idea at the next council meeting, the council of commerce member said.

I told the council about my idea.

I had done a photo of the spectacular place where the sculpture was supposed to be erected.
I had made a tiny draft.

I showed a large computer image with the sculpture already erected.
I showed the tiny draft.
The sculpture was 75 feet high.
The diameter of the sculpture tubes were 21".
I told the council that 40,000 people passed by this spectacular place every day.
I told about my inspiration - and what the sculpture might symbolize.
And so on.
And so on.
I talked and talked for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes the chairman of the council said,
We must erect this sculpture.
What's the price?
Usually potential customers do not mention these two sentences i the above order.
Usually the first sentence after a presentation of an idea is "what's the price".

Well, OK.
Peace of cake.

I started my forklift.
I found some tubes in my backyard.

I went to my studio
and welded the sculpture.

I brought the sculpture
to the spectacular place
on my lorry.

I got a brush and two bottles
of paint.
One with red paint
and one with blue.
And.
Here you are!!!

"2H"

But.

It is not that easy.
Don't believe this.
The council of commerce story is true.
But it is far more complicated and demanding to build a huge metal sculpture.

Presentation

Huge metal sculptures are expensive.
Therefore it is of the greatest importance that you can present the sculpture in an image
exactly as it will be seen in reality.
At the exact spot seen from the exact angle.
You must photograph the spectacular place.
You must do a draft of the sculpture and put it into that photo.
Here a computer is indispensable.
This is the key activity in the whole project.
If this part is not done in a proper way there is no project.

Permissions

First of all you must have permissions from a lot of authorities.

The Road Directorate
The County Council.
Nature Conservancy
Municipality Council
The Police
Etc.
This is of course dependent on in which country you want to built a huge metal sculpture.
In Chicago I once suggested a huge metal sculpture in Lake Michigan and we had to add
Civil Aviation authorities and the Military.

Calculations
It is important to consider building of a huge metal sculpture as an ordinary building project.
It is important to do the ordinary engineer calculations concerning the construction.
Of course the construction must be able to resist any storm and any hurricane.
Of course the construction must be able to resist any fall of rain, snow etc.
Of course the construction must be able to endure temperature fluctuations.
The construction must resist any force of wind.
Sounds obvious.
What is not obvious is that a wind force 1 might be dangerous to the construction - but a wind force 10 would not.
That's because high constructions might rotate at low wind forces.
This rotation can harm and destroy seemingly strong constructions.
Therefore the most important engineer calculation is concerning rotation.
It might be necessary to place some kind of stabilizer equipment in the top of the sculpture.
In the top of the "2H" sculpture there are oil bath stabilizers in both sculptures.

Construction
Don't be the entrepreneur yourself.
Sign a contract with one, one company to coordinate and to be responsible for all that has to be done.
Such as calculations, welding, painting, piling, concreting of base, erecting etc.

Painting
Don't paint yourself.
A construction like this is painted by an industrial painter, who can handle large subjects and lives up to
high quality standards.  Then you can decide how often you want to dismount the sculpture for repaint.

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: The son of my neighbor opposite is called Brian. He was 12 years old at that time.
Brian had built a skateboard ramp. He was skateboarding and he was using the ramp on our common street.
On the ramp he had painted some patterns - to make it cool.

In a very few moments after, I had done a version of Brian’s skateboard painting.
As I started working in my studio I did not remember the pattern exactly, but I reproduced what I remembered.
I named it “Pulse”.
Shortly after I made “Pulse” I had an exhibition at the city hall in Brande.
Brande City is famous for Its gable paintings.
The editor of the local newspaper, who I think was member of the council of commerce - asked me if I would like to make a gable painting to Brande.
I never thought this might happen.
Yes, yes, yes, I would love it I answered
the editor.

The editor, the director of tourism, and the chairman of the chamber of commerce went for a car ride around in Brande City in order to find the best free gable.
We found a gable on the square in the city center adjacent to the main shopping street.
Super, everybody said.
A few days later I presented the motif of the gable.
Super, everybody said.

Two master painters did the painting on the gable using my draft of “Pulse”.
“Pulse” was over the years very popular in Brande.
It was the cover of Brande’s tourist brochure.
It was the chamber of commerce’ yearly price to a deserving business carved in stone,
it was printed on mats to all Brande’s shops,
it was used as garlands of “Pulse” flags hanging across the main shopping street etc. etc

Asbjorn Lonvig's words: Every year The Confederation of Danish Industry selects a company to be granted the Danish Industry Initiative Award. The award winning company receives an art work inspired by
the company – i.e. its products….
Marxen won this award.
I made the art work.
Let’s take a closer look at the Marxen case.
Marxen is a company in the boat building and the wind turbine blade industry.
Mogens Marxen is the owner and CEO of the company.
I met him.
Mogens Marxen originally is a boat builder.
He is trained in building boats of tree.
During the years boats fore leisure more and more have been built in Fiber Composites.
Mogens Marxen brought his experience in Fiber into the business of turbine blade building.
Mogens Marxen’s plant paints a huge amount of Siemens Wind Power’s Blades.
I stood for a while in the hole of a blade, which weighed 13 tons and the tip of the blade was 45 meters way wondering: What a lot of energy is used before the wind mill produces 1 single MWATT.
When you see one truck after the other on the motorway transporting these monstrous blades, you might think the same.
3 x 13 is as far as I can calculate 39.
On each of the wind mills are 39 tons placed in the top.
The windmill engineers who calculates and constructs the mounting of blades must not make too many mistakes.
There is a great focus on sustainable energy worldwide.
The recent approach in this field is an off shore park of 500 wind turbines each of 3,5 Mega Watt in the North Sea.
DONG Energy, Denmark is the buyer and Siemens Wind Power in Brande has been
chosen as supplier.
Siemens Wind Power in Brande is theleading company when it comes to offshore wind turbines.
You can imagine it is very complicated to rise wind turbines off shore.
Wind turbines are placed off shore because of the drawbacks in placing wind
turbines in urban areas. Off shore wind turbines are relatively expensive.

I went to the library to get books and boats building drawings.
I looked for blade technology at the library, too.
The internet was searched for drawings of boats being built and blade technology.
